WikiLeaks’ Assange Granted Bail

(Ping! Zine) – WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was granted bail on Tuesday by an English judge in London.

WikiLeaks supporters reportedly posted £200,000 for bail, however Assange remains in jail as Swedish prosecutors decide whether to appeal the decision.

Assange was arrested last week for two separate instances of sexual assault in Sweden. The allegations include the rape and molestation of one woman and the molestation and unlawful coercion of another. However many supporters claim the criminal inquiry and extradition request is unfair and politically motivated.

A High Court judge will consider the Swedish authorities’ appeal sometime today and will decide whether to overturn District Judge’s subsequent decision to grant bail.
