(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Popular online encyclopedia provider Wikimedia most recently delved more into travel information, rolling out Wikivoyage.org.
According to a CNET.com report, Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, discussed the new website as a guest on Comedy Central’s Colbert Report – signaling that it’d use no advertisements.
The online presence, meanwhile, appears to follow a similar structure as Wikipedia.
“Wikivoyage is built with the spirit of sharing knowledge that makes travel so enjoyable. Whenever travellers meet each other on the road, they swap info about the places they came from and ask questions about places they’re going. We want to make it easy to share that knowledge and let others share it; our copyleft license means that the facts you know can spread far and wide,” reads the about section of the new website.
Early last year, Wikimedia played an integral part in an effort to stop controversial U.S. legislation pertaining to copyright (SOPA & PIPA).
