Windows Phone 8.1 Features Compete Against Android and iOS

Windows Phone 8.1 Features Competes Against Android and iOS (Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Microsoft’s newest OS for its Windows Phone is sure to be a notable rival against its Android and iOS competitors with its new software and features.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced the Windows Phone 8.1 at its Build Conference where the tech giant discussed many of the new features the device would have.

The company made the device more customizable by adding a third column to all screen sizes, not just larger devices that sport a 5-inch screen or bigger, and added the ability to customize the Start background with your own personal pictures.

The tiles on the home screen are now clear, so users can see their background picture as they scroll up and down.

Windows Phone now has a notification center, very similar to the one found in Android devices, with four default controls, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode, and Rotation Lock.

One of the biggest announcements concerning the Windows Phone 8.1 is the addition of Microsoft’s own version of a mobile assistant.

Cortana, the voice of Halo’s AI character, will replace the devices current Bing search function and will be integrated with Skype and other Microsoft apps.

“Cortana is the only digital assistant that gets to know you, builds a relationship that you can trust, and gets better over time by asking questions based on your behavior and checking in with you before she assumes you’re interested in something. She detects and monitors the stuff you care about, looks out for you throughout the day, and helps filter out the noise so you can focus on what matters to you,” states a post from Microsoft.

Other new features include SMS search, camera app, updated calendar, and action center.
