(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – The Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA), a membership organization that promotes the development, advancement and unity of the fixed wireless Internet service provider industry, applauds the Federal Communication Commission’s ruling this morning that will expedite processes for wireless facilities co-location approvals on a national level.
The new regulations will greatly benefit the Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) industry by making sure that existing structures such as water towers, grain silos, utility poles and buildings are eligible for expedited co-location approval by local authorities. In addition, WISPs will benefit from streamlined processes for historic preservation and environmental review.
“We are pleased that the FCC continues to recognize the value that fixed wireless technology brings to communities by providing high speed Internet as a primary or competitive choice for service,” said Alex Phillips, WISPA’s FCC Committee Chairman and Vice President. “The inclusion of a broad range of structures and expedited approval processes will help WISPs provide broadband service to underserved and unserved areas.”
WISPA is a membership-driven trade association that promotes the development, advancement and unity of the wireless Internet service provider industry. WISPA has over 800 members that support WISPA’s advocacy, education and other collaborative industry initiatives. For more information, visit http://www.wispa.org.
