World of Warcraft Hit With DDoS Attack Following Launch of Warlords of Draenor

World of Warcraft Hit With DDoS Attack Following Launch of Warlords of Draenor(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Blizzard launched its newest World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor, last week, bringing with it massive amounts of players and, of course, a denial of service attack.

On Friday Blizzard confirmed the attacks, stating that they “ran into a few other issues, including a distributed denial of service attack, that resulted in increased latency” for North American players.

“Our top priority continues to be service issues impacting performance and long wait times on North American realms,” says Blizzard. “We recently pushed a server change that caused disconnects, and as a result login services are heavily impacted as players attempt to (re)log in to the game…We’re continuing to work to address other stability and latency issues as well as make additional improvements in game performance.”

In a update posted yesterday, the developer noted that all regions are currently stable, though they are in the process of fixing multiple issues such as retrieving character screen and loaded load screen freezes by restarting all affected realm servers.
