(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – World of Warcraft is still one of the most popular games around, with a reported 7.7 million subscribers. This doesn’t stop developers from trying to find new ways to gain new members, as well as reassuring that they keep their existing ones.
Lead designer Greg Street revealed to DigitalSpy that the Blizzard development team would like to see a new expansion released every year, which is an effective tactic in luring back players who have canceled their subscription.
Usually WoW releases a new expansion pack every two to three years, with various free patches between the expansions.
“We really want to get to a cadence where we can release expansions more quickly. Once a year I think would be a good rate. I think the best thing we can do for new players is to keep coming out with regular content updates,” stated Street.
Unlike other multiplayer online role playing games, WoW still requires customers to pay a $15 a month subscription fee.
WoW’s fifth expansion, Warlords of Draenor is said to be scheduled to be released in 2014.
